Headley, Johnson Lead Monroe Mustangs Women’s Cross Country at NJCAA Championships
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., November 12, 2022 – Aaliyah Headley and Kayla Johnson were the top two finished for the Monroe College Mustangs women's cross country team in Saturday's NJCAA Div. I Women's Cross Country Championships meet at Apalachee Regional Park. The Mustangs placed 22nd overall at the meet.
Headley led the Mustangs with a 27th-place finish out of 181 finishers at the meet, clocking in at 19:30.3, her second fastest time of the season. Johnson was not far behind, finishing in 20:05.7, also her second quickest time of the year, to take 38th overall.
With her 27th-place finish, Headley was named a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NJCAA Div. I Women's Cross Country All-American. She earned this distinction by finishing in the top 15 percent of the field in Saturday's championship meet.
The trend continued with Janeisy Camilo, who ran a time of 25:50.7 to also secure her second best time of 2022. Vegonia Jean Baptiste finished the race in 28:55.4. Yanise Gallo capped things off for the Mustangs with a time of 37:56.4.
Saturday's meet wrapped up the 2022 campaign for the Mustangs. The program will return to competition during the 2023 NJCAA indoor track and field season beginning in the winter.
