FIT Women's Cross Country Claims 2024 Region 15 Championship

Kings Park, New York - Olivia Corabi's fourth consecutive top 10 finish and second straight runner-up finish propelled the Fashion Institute of Technology women's cross country to the 2024 NJCAA Region 15 Division III Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at the St. Joseph's Cross Country Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park.

The Tigers finished fourth overall out of 13 teams from the NCAA and NJCAA institutions with a score of 140 points, beating out Suffolk County Community College for tops in the Region 15. The Sharks finished fifth overall with a score of 155 points and second in the Region. The Tigers will head to the NJCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Richmond, Virginia, at Pole Green Park.

Corabi posted her second runner-up effort of the season and second top-five finish in the women's 5k out of 98 competitors from NCAA and two-year institutions with a time of 20:46.5. Her finish was 26 seconds behind another Region 15 runner, Attoya Harvey of Monroe University who won her third straight race and is a NJCAA Division I Nationals qualifier.

Sofia Zampella was the second Tigers program runner to finish in the top 10 overall in the race, clocking in with a time of 22:30.5 and a ninth-place finish. Corabi and Zampella also received medals for finishing in the top seven among Region 15 competition, finishing first and second individually.

Clare Desario, Marla McCain, and Emily Chen posted personal bests in the women's 5k with times of 26:57.9, 27:06.9, and 27:44.3. Esther Babafemi finished with a time of 29:05.2.
