BMCC Men's Cross Country Team Captures Region 15 Championship

KINGS PARK, N.Y. - The Borough of Manhattan men's cross country team finished off an amazing regular season with a first-place performance at the 2025 Cross Country Region 15 Championship! With the win, in just year four as a program, the Panthers earned the schools first-ever Region 15 Cross Country Championship at the St. Joseph's Invitational in Sunken Meadow State Park.
BMCC Head Coach Ricardo Villanueva was also named Region 15 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Leading the way for the Panthers was sophomore William Fernandez (New York, New York) who finished 29th overall in the 8k race with a time of 31:24.2. Joining Fernandez in the top 50 were Thomas Black IV (Queens, New York) and Saikou Sanyang (Gambia), who finished 48th and 49th overall. Finishing with a time of 33:21.9 and 33:22.0, respectively. Dalton Ligon (New York, New York) and Gaury Peralta Valerio (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic), each finished in the top 90 overall, to help secure the championship with a final team score of 272.
In terms of the region, Ben Vasquez of Suffolk County Community College finished first out of all the Region 15 Division III runners (and 18th overall) with a time of 30:29.9.
