Region 15 Athletes of the Month For December

NEW YORK – Region 15 has announced its Athlete of the Month honorees for December. The announcement was officially made on Friday morning. 

The Region 15 Athlete of the Month winners are below.

Division III Women's Basketball: Beverly Williams (Monroe University – Bronx)

Division III Men's Basketball: Diego Cruz Lopez (Queensborough Community College)

Williams currently leads the country with 85 steals. The Bronx native averaged 24.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.5 steals, and 3.5 assists per game over a four-game stretch in December that saw nationally ranked No. 5 Monroe go 4-0. Williams was also named the NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Week on December 10. 

Cruz Lopez is a big reason why Queensborough is in first place in the Region 15 standings at 9-1 (12-1 overall). He averaged 21.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.2 steals per game in December. The second-year guard went 16-for-17 from the free throw line (94.1%) during that stretch. The Tigers went 5-0 this past month.
