Nassau, Borough of Manhattan, and Monroe - Bronx Make History at Inaugural NJCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Tournament
GLEN, ELLYN, Ill. – The #2-seed Nassau Community College, #6-seed Borough of Manhattan Community College, and #8-seed Monroe University – Bronx all competed in the inaugural NJCAA Men's Volleyball Championship Tournament on April 23-25 at College of DuPage.
The Lions won their quaterfinal matchup over #7-seed Atlantic Cape Community College to earn a berth in the national semifinal. Nassau lost to #3-seed Ocean County College, 3-1, in the next round. Then, the Lions dropped the third-place match in straight sets to #1-seed DuPage.
Prior to the tournament, Nick O'Malley was honored with the North Atlantic District Coach of the Year award at the NJCAA Pre-Tournament Banquet.
The Panthers fell to Ocean County in a quarterfinal matchup, 3-0, and then dropped a five-set thriller to Atlantic Cape in their first consolation match.
The Express lost in straight sets to top-ranked DuPage (straight sets) in the quarterfinal round and then lost to #5-seed Union County College New Jersey, 3-0, in the first match of the consolation bracket.
Monroe then battled BMCC for a seventh-place finish in the NJCAA Championship Tournament. The Express won a thrilling match in five sets.
