Region 15 Athletes and Pitchers of the Month For April

NEW YORK – Region 15 is proud to announce its Athletes of the Month for April. 

The winners are below.

Division I Softball (Athlete of the Month): Reese Surratt (Monroe University – New Rochelle)

Surratt led the Mustangs in the month of April at the plate, tallying 26 hits in 47 at-bats with a team-high batting average of .553. She also recorded one home run and 10 RBIs in the month. In the pair of games of the Regional Opening Round against Harford Community College, she tallied her 100th career hit.

Division I Softball (Pitcher of the Month): Kelsea Bauer (Monroe University - New Rochelle)

Bauer made seven appearances in the circle during the month of April, tallying an ERA of just 1.17. She struck out 14 batters in 18 innings pitched. In those seven appearances she only allowed three earned runs. Bauer also picked up two wins during the month.

Division I Baseball (Athlete of the Month): Franklin Francisco (Monroe University – New Rochelle)

Francisco led the Mustangs in hits in the month of April; tallying 26 with two home runs, seven doubles, and 21 RBIs. He batted .426 during that time. In the 19 games he played in April, Francisco tallied multiple hits in nine games including a four-hit outing against Camden County College on April 9.

Division I Men's Outdoor Track and Field: Shaquane Toussaint (Monroe University - New Rochelle)

The first-year native of Grenada ran a time of 20.71 in the 200m at Morgan State University on April 17-18. Toussaint's time placed him first overall in the event and shattered the previous school record, which he set recently. His performance also improved his rankings for the outdoor championships in New Mexico and marked an outdoor career best for him. His time in the event is also the fastest time ever run in the program's history. Toussaint continued his monumental day when he clocked a career-best time of 10.36 in the 100m, which qualified him for the National Championships as well.

Men's Volleyball: Johncarlo Rivera (Nassau Community College)

Through 16 sets in April, Rivera totaled 38 kills with 17 digs, 15 blocks, and seven service aces. He helped lead Nassau to a Region 15 Championship and then helped his team to a first-round win in the NJCAA National Tournament. He led the Lions in the three tournament matches with 27 kills.

Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field: Kailey George (Borough of Manhattan Community College)

George ran the 800m in 2:38.81 on April 10 which earned her a national ranking of No. 10 in NJCAA Division III. She bettered her national qualifying time in the 400m to 1:02.49 to earn her a No. 3 national ranking in the 400m in NJCAA Division III. 

Division III Men's Lacrosse: Luke Hartman (Nassau Community College)

This is Hartman's second straight Region 15 Division III Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Month honor. He led Nassau to a 5-1 month, including a win in the District Championship. He totaled 23 goals and nine assists with a .776 shot-on-goal percentage. Hartman compiled 21 ground balls during the month.

Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field: Jeremaiyh Burch (Nassau Community College)

Burch has now earned the Region 15 Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Month accoladed for the second consecutive time. Burch was undefeated in outdoor events through the end of April. He is No. 6 in the nation in his 400m time of 48.74 and helping the 4x400 relay team to a No. 6 national ranking. He set the NJCAA DIII record in the 800m with a time of 1:51.62. Burch was named twice in April as the USTFCCCA NJCAA DIII Athlete of the Week.

Division III Softball (Athlete of the Month): Tiara Desanto (Monroe University – Bronx)

Desanto earned Region 15 Division III Softball Athlete of the Month kudos for the second consecutive time. She was named to the All-Region first team and Region 15 All-Tournament team. She hit three home runs and drilled five doubles in April. The rookie infielder scored 21 times and drove in 14 runs. Desanto hit .364 and stole 16 bases during the month.

Division III Softball (Pitcher of the Month): Kimberly Coste (Monroe University – Bronx)

Coste earned three wins in April. The highlight was on April 12 at NJCAA Division II Orange County Community College where Coste was outstanding in relief. She earned the victory after tossing 4 2/3 innings and allowing just one unearned run while limiting the Colts to two hits. She pitched three complete games in April. Thanks to her strong effort throughout the season, Coste earned a spot on the All-Region second team and earned Region 15 All-Sportsmanship accolades

Division III Baseball (Athlete): Lenox Rondon (Bronx Community College)

For the month of April, Broncos' standout Rondon has put together an incredible month, boasting a batting average of .681 (30-for-44), and raising his season average from .368 to .583 in the process. 14 of his 30 hits were for extra bases, including 10 doubles, two triples, and two home runs. The standout picked up 18 RBIs and walked 16 times. In Bronx's 12-2 CUNY Championship game win over Queensborough Community College, he registered a pair of hits, including an RBI double and RBI single. In the CUNY title game overall, he reached base three times and drove in two runs.

On a national level, Rondon led the NJCAA in batting average, hitting .579 for the season. His .711 on-base percentage is also tops in both conferences.

Division III Baseball (Pitcher): Yevian Delgado (Monroe University – Bronx)

Delgado went 4-0 during the month of April for the Express with an ERA of 2.95. He struck out 25 batters and pitched three complete games. 

Coming up big in key games, Delgado earned an important win at Suffolk County Community College that clinched the No. 1 seed in the Region 15 Postseason for the Express. He struck out five batters in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
