Region 15 Athletes and Pitchers of the Month for May
NEW YORK – Region 15 is proud to announce its Athletes of the Month for May.
The winners are below.
Division III Women's Outdoor Track: Mariana Richards (Kingsborough Community College)
Richards capped off her impressive outdoor track season by capturing the sprint double titles at the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in May. She won the National Titles in both the 100m and 200m running events. Richards was also named the 2026 NJCAA DIII Outdoor Track & Field Women's Athlete of the Year.
Division III Women's Outdoor Track (Honorable Mention): Nashya Burrell (Queensborough Community College)
Burrell became a five-time All-America honoree at the 2026 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in the 200m, 400m, 4x400m Relay, 4x100m Relay, and 4x800m Relay. She became the National Champion as the anchor of the 4x400m Relay. Burrell was bestowed National Runner-up status in the 400m run.
Division I Men's Outdoor Track: Shaquane Toussaint (Monroe University - New Rochelle)
Toussaint earned a podium finish at the 2026 NJCAA National Championships. He ran a time of 47.07 in the prelims in the 400m, while clocking a time of 20.26 seconds in the 200m prelims to advance to the final. His time was a personal best and fastest in program history in the event. Toussaint placed fifth overall in the 200m final with a time of 20.37 seconds, earning USTFCCCA First-Team All-America honors. This marks Toussaint's second consecutive Region 15 Athlete of the Month achievement.
Division I Women's Outdoor Track: Kaliyah Jones (Monroe University - New Rochelle)
Jones earned a podium finish at the 2026 NJCAA National Championships. She qualified for the final with a time of 54.89, which was a personal best and the fastest time in program history. Jones also qualified for the World Athletics U-20 Outdoor Championships. She placed seventh overall in the 400m final with a time of 56.27, earning USTFCCCA First-Team All-America honors.
Division III Softball (Pitcher of the Month): Kayla Baez (Dutchess Community College)
Baez finished sixth in the nation in batting average (.507), tied for fifth in the country in home runs (eight), seventh in the nation in slugging percentage (.918), tied for 10th in the country in pitching wins (14), and seventh in NJCAA Division III in strikeouts (159). She led the region in home runs hit, pitching wins, and strikeouts. Baez led the Falcons to a second-place finish in the Region 15 Softball Championship. She earned a spot on the All-Region first team and the Region 15 All-Tournament team.
Division III Softball (Athlete of the Month): Brooke Mancuso (Suffolk County Community College)
Mancuso was voted Region 15 Player of the Year for the second year in a row. She was named the Region 15 All-Tournament MVP. She finished the season leading all NJCAA Division III student-athletes in batting average, (.565), doubles (23), and slugging percentage (1.056). Mancuso also finished third in extra base hits (35). She led the Sharks to both the Region 15 and Northeast District Championships, as well as a berth in the NJCAA JUCO Softball World Series.
Division III Men's Lacrosse: Matt D'Aversa (Nassau Community College)
D'Aversa led the Lions to the NJCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Semifinals. He produced seven goals and two assists in the Lions' NJCAA Quarterfinal victory over nationally ranked No. 6 Herkimer College. He added three goals in the NJCAA Semifinal against nationally ranked No. 2 Onondaga Community College.
Division III Men's Outdoor Track: Jeremaiyh Burch (Nassau Community College)
Burch has now earned the Region 15 Division III Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Month honor for the third consecutive time. He qualified first overall in the preliminaries with a strong time of 1:58.36 at Nationals. Burch elevated his performance in the finals and crossed the line in 1:56.66 to claim the NJCAA Division III National Championship in the 800m run as a freshman.
Division III Men's Outdoor Field: Gary Leschinski (Suffolk County Community College)
Leschinski won the 2026 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Decathlon National Championship with 5,237 points.
Division II Baseball (Athlete of the Month): Freddy Heymach (Westchester Community College)
Heymach batted .458 while knocking in eight RBIs and drawing six walks during the month. Not only that, but he led the Vikings to a 5-2 record in May and their first Region 15 Championship in eight years.
Division III Baseball (Pitcher of the Month): Yevian Delgado (Monroe University – Bronx)
Delgado went 3-0 during the month of May with a 2.00 ERA. He earned the win that helped the Express clinch the Region 15 Regular Season Championship, the victory that secured the Region 15 Tournament Title, and a win in Game 2 of the Northeast District Championship Series at No. 7 Northern Essex Community College. He was named to the Region 15 All-Tournament team.
This marks Delgado's second straight Region 15 Pitcher of the Month accolade.
Division III Baseball (Athlete of the Month): Robert Herrera (Monroe University – Bronx)
Herrera led the Express to a Region 15 Championship and the deciding game of the Northeast District Championship Series. He was named to the All-Region first team, the Region 15 All-Tournament team, and was selected as the Region 15 Tournament MVP.
