Charlotte, North Carolina - After a dramatic 28-27 overtime upset of No. 2 Rochester Community and Technical College, a National Championship finalist in 2023, the Nassau Community College Football team shot up to No. 2 in the NJCAA Division III Football Week 1 poll. The Lions began the 2024 season ranked No. 4 in the NJCAA Division III Football preseason poll.

The Lions used a strong ground game led by Eria Harris, who ran for 163 yards on 23 carries, and complementary passing from signal caller Jayden Taylor, who threw for 121 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 3-yard run to upend the Yellowjackets. The Nassau defense showed out and gave a Rochester offense that led the country in passing yards per game last year (240.0) all they could handle as Chad Case returned an interception for a touchdown, and Leonardo Lopez led the unit with 11 total tackles and a sack.
