Suffolk Men, Women Sweep Region XV Bowling Championships

The Region XV Bowling Championships took place this past weekend at Carmel Bowl in Carmel, NY. Suffolk Community College swept both the men's and women's competition.

Each team bowled three game blocks for singles, three game series for doubles, six games worth of five-man team games, and nine baker games.

On the men's side, the Sharks led by 651 pins over second place Nassau Community College with a total pinfall of 14,076. Nassau knocked down 13,425 pins and Westchester finished third with 11,650 pins.

Mike Kissel of Suffolk led the singles field by 53 pins, firing a 712 three-game series to take the title. The Sharks occupied the top two doubles pairings as well with James Tagliaferro and Tyler Guerin combining to shoot 1,319 for six games. Mike Ruben led the all-events standings, averaging 224.50 for twelve games with a total pinfall of 2694. Kissel finished second with 2,584, which averages out to 215.33.

On the women's side, Suffolk dominating competition, knocking down 12,699 pins and winning by 3,124 over Westchester. Nassau finished third.

Suffolk had the top four finishers in singles competition with Jordan Kruger leading with a 583 series. The doubles pairing of Laura Molloy and Lena Sorrentino led with a pinfall of 1,137 and were victorious by 62 pins over Westchester's top pairing of Natasha Morrison and Stephanie Frank. Suffolk had the four highest all-events series, led by Brianna Meyer, who totaled 2,255 pins and averaged 187.92. She won over Sorrentino by a mere 7 pins.

Both of Suffolk's teams qualified for the NJCAA National tournament, which will take place from March 5-7 at Erie Community College.
