New York, New York – The inaugural 2024 season for the Borough of Manhattan Community College Outdoor Track and Field team couldn't have asked for a better start a week ago at the Queensborough Relays as Lea Reimer (Paderborn, Germany) and Tatenda Chikanyairo (Fort Lee, New Jersey) became the first runners in program history to qualify for Nationals in the 10,000 meters. The 2024 NJCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place at Thomas R. Proctor Stadium in Utica, New York, and be hosted by Mohawk Valley from May 9th through the 11th.
Reimer finished with a time of 43:31.47 for a second-place finish just a minute behind a four-year runner from Hunter College, Touka Medjoubi, who finished with a time of 42:10.17 to win the event. Reimer defeated Medjoubi in the women's 3000 meters during the 2024 CUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships back in February.
Chikanyairo put up his third top-ten finish total this season and first of the outdoor season, crossing the finish line in sixth with a time of 37:42.54 to qualify for the 2024 NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, beating the qualifying standard for the event of 38:26.71 by 24 seconds.
