Headley and Belmahdi Sweep USTFCCCA NJCAA National Athlete of the Week Awards

NEW ORLEANS, La., October 24, 2022 – Aaliyah Headley and Karim Belmahdi of the Monroe College Mustangs cross country team swept the M-F Athletic United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NJCAA Div. I National Athlete of the Week awards for the week ending Oct. 23, as announced by the USTFCCCA on Monday.
 
Headley set a new season-best time in Friday's Johnson & Wales Wildcat XC Classic at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. In a field of 71 finishers, Headley's time of 19:14.8 placed her seventh overall in the 5K race. Headley is the fifth member of the Mustangs women's cross country program to be named a USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season.
 
Belmahdi continued a strong season for the 22nd-ranked Mustangs, placing fifth overall at the JWU Wildcat XC Classic out of 82 finishers. He clocked in with an 8K time of 25:28.9 in the race. Belmahdi is the third member of the Mustangs men's cross country team to be selected as a USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week, as the first since 2017.
 
The trip to North Carolina wrapped up the regular season for the Mustangs, who will now prepare for the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. The championship meet will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12.
