All-Region Division III Softball Team Announced; Suffolk County Star Player Brooke Leach and Dutchess Coach Chip Watt Earn Major Awards
Region 15 has announced its Division III Softball All-Region team on Wednesday afternoon.
The Division III Region 15 Player of the Year and Gold Glove Award winner is Brooke Leach from Suffolk County Community College. The Region 15 Division III Coach of the Year is Chip Watt from Dutchess Community College.
Leach hit .500 during the season with three home runs, eight triples, and 15 doubles. Her slugging percentage was an outstanding 1.071, while her on-base percentage was .581. Leach drove in 36 runs and scored 27 times. In the field, she produced 38 putouts and had a fielding percentage of .918.
Watt helped Dutchess earn 13 wins during the year, including an undefeated run in the regional postseason to capture the program's first-ever Region 15 Championship. The Falcons will host a best two-out-of-three Northeast District Championship Series at Dutchess Stadium this weekend. Opponent and times are to be determined. If the Falcons win the series, they will earn a berth in the JUCO World Series.
