Monroe Mustang Women’s Indoor Track Team Comes In At #15 In US Track And Cross Country Coaches Association Week 5 Poll
New Orleans, Louisiana - After a solid showing at the Garden State Track Club Invitational, the Monroe College women's indoor track and field team came in at #15 in the US Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Week 5 Poll.
Kayla Johnson clocked in with a personal-best time in the 800-meter run of 2:21.96 in the race, while Shaquka Tyrell ran a time of 2:23.17.
Three Mustangs ran in Friday's 400-meter dash event, with Kahliyah Smith being Monroe's top finisher with a time of 1:00.14 while Vegonia Jean-Baptiste set a personal-best time at 1:01.95 and Yanise Gallo clocked in at 1:18.32.
Zothile Mbhamali set a new personal-best time in the 3,000-meter run on Friday. She crossed the tape with a time of 10:53.84, just three seconds away from qualifying for the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships event.
The Mustangs ran their first 4x400 relay of the season on Friday. The team of Smith, Jean-Baptiste, Tyrell, and Johnson clocked in with a time of 3:59.41, less than half a second shy of the qualifying standard in the event.
The Mustangs head back to Ocean Breeze next Friday, Feb. 24, for the Fasttrack Last Chance Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
