Two Reach Podium as Monroe Mustangs Women’s Track and Field Caps off NJCAA Indoor Championships

TOPEKA, Kan. – Kayla Johnson and Alyssa Dyett both earned podium finishes on Saturday to highlight the final day of the 2023 NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at Washburn University for the Monroe College Mustangs women's track and field team. The Mustangs placed 20th overall at the national meet.
After earning a spot in the finals of the 800-meter run on Friday, Johnson put herself on the podium in the event on Saturday. Johnson clocked a time of 2:17.84, a new personal-best time for the freshman, to earn a sixth-place finish in the finals of the 800m.
Alyssa Dyett competed in the finals of the triple jump on Saturday. Dyett earned an eighth-place finish with an 11.71-meter jump to earn her way onto the podium as well.
Zothile Mbhamali also competed on Saturday, representing the Mustangs in the women's mile run. She set a new personal-best time in the event, finishing the race in 5:24.11.
Day 2 of the NJCAA Indoor Championships wrapped up the indoor season for the Mustangs. They come away with three United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American performances after Johnson, Dyett and the distance medley relay team of Johnson, Kahliyah Smith, Shaquka Tyrell and Mbhamali all reached the podium in their respective events. The Mustangs will now prepare for the 2023 outdoor track and field season, which is set to begin later this month.
